While at Raffles, why not visit Singapore?

Raffles Hotel Singapore

Remember, we were on a wedding venue recce trip in Singapore and Malaysia recently? Well, we have been so caught up with work that we didn’t get a chance to write this blog for a while – but here it is – definitely makes it to our favourite hotel list – Raffles Hotel, Singapore!

Raffles Hotel Singapore - Palm Court in the Evening

We spent two nights at the uber luxurious Raffles Hotel in Singapore. This is definitely among the world’s most famous hotels – so we were super excited to experience it. Like they say – ‘While at Raffles, why not visit Singapore?’ And true it is! Raffles is an experience and a journey in itself. Its colonial style and old world charm, together with calm, green oasis like surroundings in the middle of Singapore city, make it a must stay on many seasoned travellers lists.

Raffles Hotel is an all suite property complete with 14 foot ceilings and the most gorgeous period furniture. We stayed in the Palm Court Suite – a little tour – enter the suite and first up is the parlour, a cozy little area complete with sofa, television, mini dining table and bar.

Next up, is the bedroom, extremely spacious with lots of room for open suitcases and shopping! And lastly, the ensuite bathroom was extremely comfortable with amenities by Fragonard. And that’s not all! Each suite comes with 24 hour butler service – definitely something we could get used to!

The Raffles Hotel has 15 restaurants and bars. We had a lovely buffet lunch at the Tiffin Room, one of the most famous restaurants in the hotel for a quick lunch. They have a whole spread of North Indian dishes but are famous for their chicken curry. Yummy it was! Indian food as authentic as this, is hard to find when you are outside India. But this was definitely, totally authentic! Also interesting – this restaurant was serving our very own Indian Grovers wine among others.

Our favourite experience at the Raffles however, was the famous high tea. The delectable spread, complete with scones and clotted cream (our favourite!), assorted finger sandwiches, mini cakes and tarts, and dim sum too – this is definitely our favourite high tea, now we can’t wait to go back! Most items were served on our table on the traditional three tier stand and some on the buffet. And all this with a live performance on the cello right before us!

We were lucky, we managed to fit this on our last evening there just before rushing to the airport. But it was well worth the rush! :-) We made it to the airport just in time, in a super comfortable ride in the hotel’s luxurious Bentley.

And of course, no visit to Singapore is complete without a drink at Long Bar – home of the Singapore Sling. This is something that’s always been part of our itinerary no matter where we stayed! The rustic décor, peanut shells on the floor, and great bands are just a few reasons we keep going back. This time we tried the world famous Singapore Sling and a special creation for us by the bartenders – a Bombay Sling! How cool is that!

Another must do at Raffles, is a tour of the hotel with the Resident Historian. He has been with the hotel for 40 years and even has a book to his name! Imagine the stories! Unfortunately we didn’t manage to fit this into our schedule. And don’t miss, some retail therapy at the hotel’s shopping arcade. The hotel’s in house store, Raffles Shop, is among the best I have been too with very interesting souvenirs and collectibles to take home to remind you of your stay at this fabulous hotel.

Now on to our favourite part – weddings and honeymoons! A wedding at the Raffles Hotel, is an experience for your guests. This is the perfect hotel for a destination wedding of a smaller, intimate group. The hotel has a few smaller sized rooms, each with their own character and the largest of these is the Ballroom which can accommodate upto 350 persons depending on seating style.

Another gorgeous part of the property for a wedding is the Lawns. Its colonial yet tropical feel makes it a great spot for a wedding celebration brunch or even the wedding itself for upto 180 persons.

We love the Raffles Hotel as a honeymoon destination. Enjoy the city of Singapore in your very own tranquil, oasis! What more could you ask for!
