Welcome Gift Basket Ideas for Destination Weddings!

Welcome baskets/ bags are a must have at destination weddings. Guests travel from different parts of the world to be a part of a destination wedding; so it is a great idea to make a welcome basket with essentials and amenities which would come in handy for the guests. Depending on your budget you can choose on the items you want to put in. All you need to keep in mind is that, the gifts must be useful, fun and personal.

Depending on your wedding destination you can make a list of the items you wish to include in your welcome basket/ bag. We suggest keeping a bag instead of a basket as it can be reused later. Most guests will not carry a basket back due to space constraints etc. Some of the must haves would include a welcome note, tissues, local map, programme booklet with local area information on restaurants, spas and things to do around, some local postcards, local snacks, for your care, basic first aid, mint, sanitizer, mosquito repellent, note pad and a pen. Other items which can be included could be nuts, chips, granola bars, cookies, chocolates, candies and so much more.

Including a set of nice bath kit –shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body scrub would be a good idea because some wedding destinations are really beautiful but in secluded places and may have very basic accommodation options with bare minimum amenities. The kit would surely help in such cases. This may not be the case if your guests are staying in a five star hotel of course.

For a beach wedding including stuff like a beach towel, beach ball, sunscreen, lip balm and scarves would be advisable. Some generic thing which you can include would be magnets, photo frames, bookmarks or even scented candles. If you have any outdoor functions at night, popping a flash light in the bag would be a great idea.

Other ideas for welcome gifts could include a platter of exotic fruit or a champagne bottle or may be personalized chocolates by Hersheys or Patchi.

Just a few tips…try and get most of the stuff delivered at the venue directly and assemble it there as it will save you the trouble of transporting the items to the wedding destination. Order in bulk and negotiate on rates to get discounts and personalize items wherever possible. Remember, you can personalize even your water bottle labels!! As the owner of a custom gift basket company, I’m often making custom welcome gift baskets for the out-of-town guests for weddings. I’m all for this idea and think it’s a great way to welcome guests that have traveled to attend your wedding, whether destination or to your place of residence.
