Hyderabad, the state’s capital has loads to offer to shopaholic brides. Known as, ‘The City of Pearls’, the city does have the most amazing pearl and glass jewellery. Pearls were an inherent part of the royal jewellery of the Nizams who ruled Hyderabad many years ago and were popularized by them back then. Ever since, the citys’ craftsmen make artistic jewellery using pearls and attracts a lot of buyers from all over the world.

Pearls are an epitome of elegance and simplicity and hence they must be a part of every bride’s wardrobe. Hyderabad can offer you pearl bracelets or earrings, chokers and even hath phool (a set of rings and bracelet) perfect for a mehendi function!

Apart from the pearls, the silver filigree is a well known craft from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh. This craft was practiced by the artisans of the kings’. The king’s used to patronize this art by getting custom made gifts to gift the various dignitaries visiting Hyderabad.

Another age old craft from the region is Bidri craft. This is a metal craft and gets its name from ‘Bidar’ the town where it originated more than 4000 years ago. It is an exquisite art of inlaying silver on black metal.  This art was brought down by Persian immigrants.  The craftsmen design wonderful artifacts and accessories using this craft.  Surprise your fiancé with a pair of artfully crafted Bidri cufflinks for him.

Kalamkari is another art form from the region. This is the age old art of painting and printing fabrics using a pen and vegetable dye. The art is reviving and is seen used by top end Indian designers. Brides-to-be, pick some kalamkari bed linen for your home or a kalamkari scarf.

Lastly the famous Nirmal paintings of Andhra Pradesh; these are master pieces and depict scenes from the Hindu epics – Mahabharata and Ramayana. You can pick up one of these paintings to dress up your walls!
