Day two of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2013, began with the young designer Shehlaa Khan presenting her collection aptly named ‘Tale of the Unexpected’. This was one show we fell in love with! We absolutely loved the soft, dreamy fabrics with the hand painted floral designs. The underlining theme of the entire collection was to capture the soft and feminine essence of fairy tales and portray it through a mesmerizing display of Indian and western wear. Each creation was extremely detailed, delicate and spell binding that it transported the audience as well as every one of the models to one of the far, faraway lands that we hear of in fairy tales.
The designer, in this collection managed to infuse a feminine charm and delicate grace to every ensemble, at the same time keeping it wearable and contemporary for all age groups. In this show, Shehlaa showcased a set of structured looks where the silhouettes were bold and a structure representing royalty along with contemporary feminine grace existed in every look. Shehlaa Khan is known for her beautifully cut garments and delicate embroideries.
Her collection was a serious blend of Indian and western wear that displayed a rather dreamy world of fairies and princesses, and an enchanted spell that had a very happy ending. Most of the ensembles used sheer fabrics and nude lace and other embellishments making them very breezy and light. The short and long pastel colored skirts teamed with embellished blouses in different styles were very fresh and nontraditional. We think brides are going to love this collection, especially the combination of rich Indian wear with soft pastel colors which is very popular right now. The lehengas seem light and comfortable too!
Shehlaa left the best for last – her show stopper Jacqueline Fernandes was dressed in a powder pink buillon and lace embroidered corset with a hand painted tulle skirt and a statement collar pearl necklace. She truly looked like a princess from the once upon a time stories that you might have read!
The event was graced by Shehlaa Khan’s many friends, well wishers and clients like Kajol, Ayaan Mukherjee, Kunal Rawal, Rhea Kapoor with her mother Sunita Kapoor, Anu Dewan, Avantika Malik and many more.
