International trends we love.. Now at Indian weddings!

We as wedding planners, keep track of international trends and love seeing them incorporated in Indian weddings. We love when weddings are a beautiful mix of east and west!

Bridal Shower

The bridal shower is traditionally a party with the bride and her closest friends and family which include a few games, pretty décor and of course showering the bride to be with gifts. We have seen this event incorporated in a few Indian weddings today! What better way to spend an afternoon than with your girls!

Tossing of the bouquet

The tossing of the bouquet is something most single girls at a wedding look forward to. The bride (most often blindfolded) tosses her bouquet to the single ladies and it is said that the girl that catches the bouquet will get married next. An Indian bride tossing her vibrant bouquet is such a fun photo op too!

Sit down dinner receptions

The usual Indian wedding receptions were all about the bride and groom standing on a stage, being wished by the numerous guests attending. Today that has often changed to the western style sit down dinners which include allocated table seating, speeches etc.

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

The concept of bridesmaids and groomsmen is another tradition being incorporated in Indian weddings. The girls in colour coordinated vibrant Indian wear and the boys to match are a great opportunity for the bride and groom to spend time with their closest friends and make some great photos too.

The first dance

We love to dance and the first dance has also been welcomed to our desi weddings! The bride and groom would most likely practice with a choreographer in the days leading to the wedding to put together a performance to one of their favourite songs.

Gift registry

How often have we received gifts we really didn’t need or we already have? The gift registry (very popular with weddings internationally), is a great way to avoid receiving multiples of the same item. The couple selects their wish list of items from a store, shares it with guests and thus ensure they get exactly what they want!

One of our personal favourite moments is the flower girl throwing flower petals and walking down the aisle before the bride’s entrance with her father. How about the little one in a little Indian outfit walking down the aisle towards the mandap with the bride and her father. Such a beautiful moment!

Exchange of vows

The vows are one of the most important moments of the wedding ceremony. This could be the traditional vows (to have and to hold….) or personalised vows that the bride and groom pen down for each other – either way, they are a beautiful inclusion in an Indian wedding!
