The Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2011 was opened by none other than Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor – the duo, famous for their glamorous bridal designs. Their collection “Phantom Couture” was inspired by the Victorian era and the drama of Mughal times and was a mélange of the most stunning creations.
The designers wove together glamour, grandeur and colour into their opera style ball gowns and ethnic Indian wear. Also stunning, were the royal colors with jewel tones of ruby, sapphire, emerald and topaz. To add the touch of feminine romantic elegance, the delicate lace trimmings edged the creations to highlight the silhouettes. The collection comprised of gowns with gleaming crystals, pre stitched saris with crystal borders, giant paisleys on skirts and cholis. The anarkalis were also stuning in rainbow colors with velvet-striped hemlines.
For the men, there was a range of black and white churidars, sherwanis and jodhpuri jackets embellished with detailing on silk and brocads with tonal crystals on the cuffs and shoulders.
The showstopper, Mallika Sherawat wore a gorgeous jeweled bustier and paneled lehenga in bright red. Here is what the model had to say about the collection “What I like about Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor’s fashion sensibility is that they are unafraid to experiment and be different. It’s exciting to wear a bridal outfit with a twist of Victorian Era. I love the romantic look of the lotus concept lehenga in carrot burgundy colour with a jewelled boustier. It makes a style statement for any wedding trousseau and signifies luxury for the new age bride, it sits easy though it looks heavy and I had fun walking in it.”
