And on our recent trip to Vienna and Salzburg, where we stayed at the Sacher Hotels, we realised that they are absolutely wonderful options for an intimate yet elegant wedding. Love and luxury go hand in hand in these stunning cities, as well as the gorgeous hotels we had the pleasure of staying at. If history, classic style and luxury are what you are looking for, you may have found your ideal wedding destination match!
Vienna
The capital of Austria, the city of Vienna is gorgeous and one that speaks of history, opulence and lushness. Pretty ideal for a chic European destination wedding with major elements of classic style and glamour thrown into the mix. Exchanging your vows in the city along the beautiful Danube river could be absolutely wonderful.
We will get to the actual wedding venue in a minute, but we must tell you Vienna is full of tons of things to see and excursions you can plan for your wedding guests. Visits to the Belvedere Palace, Schönbrunn Palace and Zoo, National Theatre, Museumsquartier, Ringstrasse parks and more can all be arranged to give your wedding party a trip to cherish. You can also arrange for a tour through the Viennese vineyards and the taverns.
You have quite a few venue options for an intimate wedding in Vienna, from the many hotels to banquet halls around the city. One of our main picks for the actual wedding venue is the luxurious Sacher Hotel, a 5 star property that has a rich and illustrious history. It is stately yet charming, a typical Viennese establishment, located behind the Vienna State Opera, that has housed many famous celebrities and royalty in the past. From glamorous traditional spaces and banquet halls like the stunning Marble Hall to more contemporary conference group spaces suited to smaller groups, the Hotel Sacher Wien has multiple options for a chic wedding space as well as areas for a sparkling wedding lunch or dinner or a cocktail party.
It currently has eight banquet halls spanning a capacity of 2 to a 100 people. This gives you a number of options all with gorgeous interiors and magnificent touches like huge chandeliers and flexible seating arrangements. It also houses a number of restaurants and bars including the famed Anna Sacher, one of the most prominent places for fine dining in the city. And the best part – a massive in-house private art collection!
A notable mention and fact that we absolutely loved is their service. The hotel has two employees to every guest! Your wedding guests will definitely be pampered and catered to every step of the way. Definitely luxury at its finest.
Salzburg
Another romantic choice for a destination wedding in Europe is the city of Salzburg. With breathtaking views of the Alps and stunning architecture, the city is a beautiful choice for a destination wedding filled with scenic locales and history. It is also where Mozart was born; so a must visit for anyone who is a music lover.
Like Vienna, Salzburg also has tons to see and do for a wedding party. From the Mirabell Palace to the picturesque Old City area, the city is charming to say the least . One thing we loved was the Sound of Music Tour – what a fun thing to do with your family and wedding guests. You could also arrange for a cruise down the Salzburg River and in fact have a small wedding function while you float through the beautiful sights! You can also have a carriage ride with your loved ones, to top off your fairytale wedding. Cathedrals, museums, gardens and river views… it is a wedding destination that takes your breath away.
As far as wedding venues go, there are lovely hotels to be found, and the historic Hotel Sacher Salzburg is one such property situated on the banks of the Salzach River. An undoubtedly elegant option right in the city center, we thought it was great for an intimate romantic wedding with views straight out of a movie. The Wintergarten banquet hall is perfect for groups of 12-120 people and offers flexible partition arrangements. We loved the terrace and the gorgeous views of the river and old town area!
Both cities provide oodles of glamour and romance and are idyllic destinations for a sophisticated destination wedding!
