Changing Trends | Black Wedding Dresses by Vera Wang!

Vera Wang black wedding dresses at the Fall 2012

Vera Wang recently launched a whole new range of black wedding dresses at the Fall 2012 runway show in New York last weekend. Quite unconventional and targeted towards the modern bride, the collection comprises of 15 pieces. The collection is beautiful with a combination of jet black lace and tulle in hues of coffee and tan.

She is one of the most celebrated designers and has designed wedding dresses for the likes of Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, Jenifer Lopez, Chelsea Clinton and many more. Having created distinct and unique pieces in the past in hues of grey and mint, this time she came up with something which not many designers would dare to create.

White wedding gowns were popularized by Queen Victoria in 1840 when she wore it to her wedding to Prince Albert.  Prior to this, silver gowns with brocade and thread work and red gowns were common in Western Europe.  Yellows blues, brown, grey and black were common in the far West before Queen Victoria set the new wave and changed bridal couture. From then on, white has been a preferred colour among brides and symbolized the status of elite families.

The trends are changing and brides are getting bolder and are open to newer options. Only time will tell us the way forward to these wedding gowns. Let’s see how this trend influences bridal fashion around the world!!
