A Few Important Wedding Planning Tips | Saying ‘I Do’ to Your Wedding Budget

planing a wedding

When couples who are set to embark on their all important wedding planning journey ask their married friends and relatives for important wedding planning tips, it almost always starts with something to do with the budgeting! Whether you plan to have an extravagant wedding in a five star resort or a smaller do at home, the wedding budget and how it’s planned and managed is always a major concern.

No one wants to be stretched thin financially after the wedding is over and the glow of the honeymoon has dimmed. If you want to be at ease with your spending and get the most bang for your buck, the process of working on and committing to the wedding budget is a must!

The first step is naturally figuring out how much you can afford to spend. If you or your partner’s parents are paying for the wedding or contributing, it’s important to have an honest and open discussion about how much they can afford and how much you are comfortable with them paying for. If you are financing the entire thing yourself it’s vital that both of you are on the same page when it comes to the amount that you will be spending out of pocket. An honest discussion about the money aspect can spare you a lot of tension later!

Once you know what the wedding budget is, how you allocate it is a major factor that can affect the different aspects of your Indian wedding. It helps considerably when you know what costs how much like the venues, décor, photographer etc. and what percentage of your total budget you are okay with spending on them. If you feel like expenses are spiraling out of control there are ways to help curb them like prioritizing what is important to you for e.g. for some it may be extra flair in the décor, for others it may be hiring a popular DJ for the Sangeet instead. Factor in and plan for extra expenses that may crop up. Remember you choose where the money goes!

Sticking to your wedding budget is probably the most crucial factor that will afford you peace of mind later. And yes while it’s natural to get tempted and say buy more extravagant jewelry while you are out shopping or order the exotic imported flowers instead of local ones, if you can’t afford it say no. Always leave a little aside for something you just can’t say no to!
