Wedding Planning in Thailand | Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok

\"Shangri

We are just back from a week in Bangkok, Thailand. Yes a whole week! It was jam packed with venue inspections, fabulous restaurant experiences, vendor meetings and of course some shopping time too! We spent the first three days at the magnificent Shangri-La in Bangkok. Here is more about our stay:The hotel is huge, really huge in fact for a city hotel – it has a total of 802 rooms. How’s that for a big fat Indian wedding? Perfect! These rooms are divided between two towers – the Shangri-La wing and the Krungthep wing.

We loved the spacious rooms with gorgeous Thai inspired décor with silk and teak finishings. The fruit platter was replenished daily and had a great selection of our favourite Thai fruits which were perfect for late night snacking! The service throughout the hotel and all of our stay there was impeccable. And the housekeeping was amazing – they even arranged all our products in height order! Loved it!

The location is fabulous, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River with some of the most gorgeous views in the city. And what was perfect was the proximity to the BTS (Bangkok’s well connected sky train service that can take you virtually anywhere in the city). It was literally across the street from the hotel. Other than that, the hotel also has a free shuttle boat service to take you to a number of locations along the river.

The hotel has quite a few dining options to choose from – Angelini (Italian), Shang Palace (Chinese), Horizon Cruise (international buffet), Salathip (Thai) and Next 2 (all day dining).

Breakfast was served in Next 2 and was a huge spread with everything possible from international selections, Chinese, Thai and even a whole selection of Indian breakfast items!

We fell in love with The Chocolate Boutique! They create the most interesting chocolate sculptures, which had us clicking away, and the taste – absolutely sinful. We gorged on this chocolate fudge, which was divine!

For fitness freaks, the hotel has a huge fitness center, which we hear is open 24 hours. The pool with a great riverside location again is an area we were looking forward to spending most of our time. The famous Chi spa offers a variety of Asian and Thai treatments. Again, a must, must do while in Bangkok!

Now what was brilliant was the selection of venues available for a wedding, especially an Indian wedding with many different events. The Grand Ballroom can seat almost 1,000 people banquet style. It also has a separate entrance – perfect for the Baraat! Apart from this, the hotel has quite a few other banquet spaces, which are perfect for smaller events and each has their own unique identity. We especially loved the outdoor spaces for a more intimate event including Salathip – the Thai restaurant overlooking the river. This venue would be perfect for an intimate family dinner.
