Before we head there, we thought of doing some research on Sri Lankan brides and were fascinated by their wedding look.<\/p>\n<p>Sri Lankan traditions are similar to Asian traditions in many ways. The traditional bridal attire in Sri Lanka is an outfit similar to the <a title=\\\"Indian saree\\\" href=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/bollywood-inspired-sarees-for-your-trousseau.html\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\">Indian saree<\/a>; it is known as, \u2018Osariya\u2019. \u00a0The osariya is a grand saree crafted in rich fabric with golden thread work on it along with pearl, bead, stone and sequin detailing.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The difference between the Indian and Sri Lankan saree drape is the style of blouse. The blouse worn with the osariya is quite fancy with puffed or three fourth sleeves.<\/p>\n<p style=\\\"text-align: center;\\\"><a href=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/the-sri-lankan-bride.html\/wedding-saree-drape-sri-lanka\\\" rel=\\\"attachment wp-att-8021\\\"><img class=\\\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8021\\\" title=\\\"wedding saree drape Sri Lanka\\\" src=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/wedding-saree-drape-Sri-Lanka.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"wedding saree drape Sri Lanka\\\" width=\\\"354\\\" height=\\\"480\\\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An auspicious time is chosen by the mother or a female relative of the bride for the bride to start dressing on the wedding day. The bride follows this as it is considered to be lucky.<\/p>\n<p style=\\\"text-align: center;\\\"><a href=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/the-sri-lankan-bride.html\/traditional-sri-lankan-bride\\\" rel=\\\"attachment wp-att-8023\\\"><img class=\\\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8023\\\" title=\\\"Traditional Sri Lankan bride\\\" src=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Traditional-Sri-Lankan-bride.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"Traditional Sri Lankan bride\\\" width=\\\"380\\\" height=\\\"572\\\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\\\"wedding jewellery\\\" href=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/wedding-jewellery-lust-list.html\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\">wedding jewellery<\/a> comprises of Nalalpata, which is a gem studded hair accessory. The piece is crafted is gold and is usually studded with red stones. There are also other embellishments for hair with symbols of sun and moon which the bride wears. These depict eternity and symbolize a fulfilling relation between the couple. The neck jewellery comprises of multiple chains and each of them has beautiful pendants crafted in local designs. A minimum of seven chains are worn by the bride. The last chain which is the longest is called Peti Malaya and represents a garland of flowers. The patterns for pendants are inspired by animals and nature and often include designs such as flowers or swans. Swans symbolize purity and are considered to be auspicious.<\/p>\n<p style=\\\"text-align: center;\\\"><a href=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/the-sri-lankan-bride.html\/melisma-maharani-necklace-of-sri-lankan-bride\\\" rel=\\\"attachment wp-att-8024\\\"><img class=\\\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8024\\\" title=\\\"melisma maharani necklace of Sri Lankan bride\\\" src=\\\"http:\/\/marrymeweddings.in\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/melisma-maharani-necklace-of-Sri-Lankan-bride.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"melisma maharani necklace of Sri Lankan bride\\\" width=\\\"400\\\" height=\\\"498\\\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The earrings are similar to Indian jhumkas and are known as Dimiki. The stud from where the danglers flow is studded with odd number of stones as even numbers is considered to be unlucky. The bride also wears gold bangles and a waist belt called Hawadiya.
