It was and still is, one of the most talked about weddings in Bollywood. Yes, one of our personal favourites, we are talking about Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra\u2019s \u00a0-\u2018Big Fat Lavish Indian Wedding\u2019. \u00a0You can only expect the best when the match is so perfect! Everything was so well-planned, and Shilpa made the most stunning bride.<\/p>\n

\\\"Shilpa<\/a><\/p>\n

The couple got engaged on 24th October, 2009 and had a small private ceremony at Raj\u2019s home in Mumbai. Shilpa looked stunning in a pink and red chiffon saree designed by Manish Malhotra. She paired it with a dazzling kundan set from Anmol Jewellers. The engagement ring gifted to her by Raj was the talk of the town! According to media reports, the ring was worth over 5 million dollars.<\/p>\n

\\\"Shilpa<\/a><\/p>\n

The wedding card was designed by Ravish Kapoor. Ravish is a Delhi based wedding card designer and is known for creating couture wedding cards. The wedding card was royal and elegant in design and had a lovely intricate brooch on it with the couple\u2019s initials carved. Blue being Shilpa\u2019s favourite colour, and also a royal colour, was meant to be the colour of the wedding card. Since Shilpa and Raj are both very spiritual, the card had some Sanskrit verses inscripted on the card.<\/p>\n

The mehendi and sangeet took place a day prior to the wedding, at the same venue. Ganesh Hegde the famous Bollywood choreographer choreographed the couple\u2019s and families performances.\u00a0 The performances were set on popular songs from Shilpa\u2019s movies. Since the mehendi was a day function, the theme was Hawaiian. For the mehendi ceremony, Shilpa wore a Swarovski crystal studded kaftan as opposed to a traditional Indian lehenga choli which is so common at weddings. For the sangeet she went with a traditional anarkali chuddidar.<\/p>\n

The wedding took place with a close-knit group of people including family and friends at one of Shilpa\u2019s close friend Kiran Bawa\u2019s hill resort in Khandala. The wedding took place on the 22nd of November, 2009. The mandap was decorated with lots of flowers and had bells hanging at different heights. Her wedding trousseau was designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Tarun is one of our favourites too, and is known for his majestic range of Indian wear for weddings.<\/p>\n

\\\"shilpa<\/a><\/p>\n

Shilpa Shetty looked simply stunning at the wedding ceremony in a red saree studded with diamonds and emeralds. She was dressed like a traditional south Indian bride and wore lovely accessories from head to toe.\u00a0 Raj on the other hand wore a Shantanu and Nikhil creation; a maroon sherwani with gold zari work and arrived at the venue in a horse driven chariot. Raj looked like a typical Punjabi groom with the sehra and sword. The ceremony was conducted in a Mangalorean style, with a guest list comprising of only 150 guests. Shilpa wore a lovely set of uncut diamonds at the wedding and reception specially designed by Ishu Datwani of Anmol Jewellers . The menu comprised of Hydrabadi and Awadhi specialties and was catered by Mumbai\u2019s Foodlink.<\/p>\n

The reception took place at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai and had over 500 guests. Shilpa wore a gold encrusted lehenga saree designed by Tarun Tahiliani while Raj wore a black sherwani.<\/p>\n

Post all the festivities, the couple headed off to Bahamas for a month long honeymoon! This was one of our favourite Bollywood weddings, and we couldn\u2019t resist writing about it, even so much after the wedding!<\/p>\n
