\nWhen you combine imagination with creativity the outcome will surely be mystical. That\u2019s exactly what Nandita\u2019s collection reflected at Lakme Fashion Week.\u00a0 Drawing her inspiration from a highly successful French play \u2018La Tosca\u2019 set in early 1800\u2019s\u00a0 she created her version of costumes that would be used if the same play was to be staged in today\u2019s day and age.<\/p>\n

Her collection saw the fusion of present-day fashion with the costumes and designs of the Victorian era but with an Indian influence. Crafted using fabrics like\u00a0georgette, chiffon and satin in royal colours such as crimson, cobalt blue, black and ivory the clothes ranged from semi-formal to ultra-evening glamour.<\/p>\n

The ensemble was embellished with striking designs such as vine, leaf and flowers in Badla, anchor and bullion work. The collection included long maxi skirts, velvet dresses, kalidar kurtas and tube dresses. Shading was used cleverly for velvet dresses on the neckline while embroidered black skirts which were paired with sheer shirts. Circular embroidery in antique gold adorned many garments in the collection. The kimono style shaded tasseled shoulders for a kurta was a perfect touch from Nandita.<\/p>\n

She blended the cultures of East and West with ease. The show ended with Zoa Morani walking the ramp in a gorgeous navy blue glittering lehenga and choli with a stunning dupatta.<\/p>\n

Not too over the top, the collection can be worn right off the rack and is just perfect for a sangeet<\/a> or mehendi function. A novel idea perfectly crafted!<\/p>\n

The veteran designer shared some tips on how to select your bridal wear.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Nandita, when it comes to selecting your wedding outfit just go with your gut feeling. This is a once in a life time occasion and it\u2019s your day. There will be many people who will suggest and share opinions but only you would know which colours and cuts look best on you. She says don\u2019t choose a colour just because a designer or someone else says it looks good. You need to feel it!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s popular with bridal wear right now.<\/em><\/p>\n

Talking about the latest trends and popular outfits among brides the current fast-moving outfit is the lehenga. Nandita suggests that while selecting a lehenga make sure it\u2019s fitted on the waist and top of the hips and then flares downwards. Do not mistake this for a fish cut though! This style can go with all body types and is always flattering!<\/p>\n

How much in advance should you buy your wedding outfit?<\/em><\/p>\n

Start scouting for your outfit at least four months ahead of the wedding. Four months is a good enough lead time to get your dream outfit and make any alterations if required.<\/p>\n

How to get your wedding outfit from Nandita?<\/em><\/p>\n

Nandita is based out of Kolkata. The best thing would be to make a trip to Kolkata to browse through her entire collection and place your order depending on what you like and then another trip closer to the date for fittings. Once the fittings are done, the finishing and delivery will be done in a week\u2019s time. This may vary depending on where the outfit needs to be shipped, but it won\u2019t take very long.
