Dainty Toe Rings for the Indian Bride

Toe rings are pretty and add to the overall look of the bride. A toe ring holds significance in a married women’s life and is common among Indian brides. With changing times this traditional piece of wedding jewellery has evolved in design and is available in an array of styles to suit the requirement of the modern bride

The most common and simple design of the traditional toe ring is a spiral of smooth round bold rings of silver. This has been passed down from generations… but, now there are tons of design options available.  Another conventional design which was also common was the spiral ring with trinkets.

Another design which was common among north Indian brides was the coin design. The design of this ring was in the form of a disc on top of the ring.

The more conventional designs are not necessarily based on silver. The other popular options are Kundan studded toe rings and Meenakari toe rings. Kundan studded toe rings look very royal while the Meenakari ones are quite colourful and fun.

The reason traditional toe rings were crafted in sliver and not gold was because, gold was considered to be a superior and more auspicious metal and hence could not worn to adorn the feet. But the contemporary designs do not follow this notion. Pretty designs are available in gold and brides are choosing these to complete the traditional look for the wedding.

Toe rings symbolize the marital status of women in India. The pair signifies the dual status of a woman…as a wife and as a sister hence one ring stands for the bride’s brother and the other stands for her husband. In case any of them dies the other promises to protect her; though now it’s more of a fashion statement.
