Whether in India or out, an ideal honeymoon destination almost always falls in one of the following categories – a pristine beach, a lush green hill station, snow covered mountains or some other similar exotic locale. Most couples prefer to sit and back and simply relax on their honeymoon and spend some quality time alone. This honeymoon period not only helps recover from a chaotic and emotionally charged wedding but also helps rejuvenate and gear up to dive into work refreshed and energized.

Today’s fast paced life and work related commitments however leave no space for long leisure holidays. Modern couples have learnt to juggle professional and personal lives with ease. They believe in quality over quantity and know how to make the best of a quick holiday.

The best way to get to know your partner better is to plan activities together.  Learning something new will put both partners on an even footing and will also be an adventurous experience for the two of you. This need not necessarily be a scenic locale or an exotic destination but can be done at a farm house or resort close to home. Enroll for a wine tasting session at the vineyards in Nashik or take up a quick salsa or even yoga sessions in Goa. Not only will you enrich yourselves with the learning but will also come back with loads of pleasant memories.

You can also combine your quick getaway with something that the two of you enjoy and relate to. For example nature lovers can enroll for outdoor walks and guided bird watching tours offered by many tourist destinations like Coorg, Himachal Pradesh and Nainital. Or if you both are environmentalists you can take up a project that’s close to your heart like rural education camps or awareness camps. Animal lovers can also offer help to animal welfare NGO’s.

A wedding is said to be a union not only of two individuals but also of two families. What better way to get to know each other’s families better than to take them along on your honeymoon! It may sound absurd and funny at first but if you think about it, it is the perfect opportunity for both families to bond over games, food, adventure sports or shopping sprees! Also in case of arranged marriages, the presence of siblings around also provides emotional support and helps break the ice between the two of you. That being said, you don’t have to stick around your family all the time. Make sure the two of you also slip away and spend some time alone.
